JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Satriyo Yudi Wahono, also known as Piyu Padi, was present as a related party in the judicial review of Copyright Law No. 28 of 2014 held at the Constitutional Court (MK) on Thursday (July 10, 2025). Piyu attended as the Chairman of the Indonesian Composers Association (AKSI), presenting a counter-narrative to the lawsuit filed by Nazril Irham (Ariel Noah) and 28 other musicians regarding the Copyright Law. “The protection of copyright is not only a matter of legality, but also a matter of ethics, justice, and the future of the national creative industry,” said Piyu during the hearing of case number 28/PUU-XXIII/2025 on Thursday.
Piyu stated that the state must not be defeated by market forces, so it is necessary to maintain the licensing system that has been established so far. During the hearing, Piyu also requested that the Constitutional Court judges consider the integration of norms within the Copyright Law.
“And maintain its full validity,” he said. During the hearing, Piyu Padi's lawyer, Singgih Tomi Gumilang, emphasized that Ariel Cs' argument ignored the systemic structure of the Copyright Law, which is organized in a hierarchical and interrelated manner. “The articles being tested are not separate from the legal system, but rather a whole that forms the copyright protection ecosystem in the Republic of Indonesia,” said Singgih.
